IST European SectionThe European Section of the IST is the oldest Section and traditionally has been able to draw on the large number of toxinology researchers working in the region, whose work often encompasses toxins from around the World, since Europe itself is not home to as many toxin producing fauna and flora as some other regions. Scientific sessions covered molecular mechanisms of toxin action, genetics and evolution of toxins, toxins as tools and drugs, and poisoning, envenomation and clinical studies, and a round table discussion on the initiative to sequence the genome of a toxic organism. The Alistair Reid Memorial Lecturer was Dr. Jan Tytgat, University of Leuven, Belgium.
